Why You Need To Schedule A Portrait Session With Me..

Because Photographs Help Ease Pain

Blog-Ian1 According to a study published in the November 2009 issue of the journal Psychological Science
photographs help ease pain.

In the study heat was applied to the arms of female volunteers under several conditions then asked to rate the discomfort they felt while doing one of the following:

1. holding the hand of their long-term romantic partner (as he sat behind the curtain),
2. holding the hand of a male stranger (also behind the curtain),
3. holding a squeeze ball,
4. viewing the partner’s photographs (taken upon his arrival) on a computer screen,
5. viewing photographs of a male stranger (ethnicity-matched to the participant’s partner),
6. viewing photographs of a chair, and
7. viewing a crosshair

Number 4, viewing the photograph of their partner reported the lowest levels of discomfort. Looking at the photo made them feel better than holding their partners hand.
